More Than Sunsets & Starlings by Simon Evans

Aberystwyth is a much photographed town. Holiday makers wallowing in the waves, sumptuous sunset skies at, or, in the winter months, the waves crashing over the prom, and the swooping starlings, dipping and diving down to their roost under the pier. Many have recorded these things, and done so extremely well, but this book takes a different approach. Working in monochrome, the photographer captures the locals, the students, and the tourists, who make up the town's seasonally fluctuating population - the smiles, the frowns, the music and dance, celebration and protest, all playing out against the backdrop of the town itself, which is a character in its own right. Definitely, more than sunsets and starlings.  This is a softback book which includes 120 black and white photographs. 

Simon Evans was born in Cardiff, and has lived in Ceredigion for most of his life. He started taking photos almost as soon as he was able to hold a camera, and by 12 years old started developing his own black and white photos. For over 20 years he has worked at the National Library of Wales, in Digital Imaging and the Photographic Archive.
