This mounted print features an intricate illustration by Margaret Jones, based on the stories of the Mabinogion. Drudwy Branwen (Branwen's starling) depicts the starling which the character tames, and tasks with delivering her plea for rescue to her brother, in Branwen's story.

Believed to date from the late 11th and 12th centuries, the Mabinogion stories are contained within either or both medieval manuscripts the White book of Rhydderch (c. 1350) and the Red book of Hergest, dated around 1382-1410, although it is generally agreed that the stories pre-date the surviving manuscripts.
