Cotton tea towel depicting the eloquent bass baritone, stage and film actor and political activist Paul Robeson, who spoke up for people of other cultures who were enduring great opression, both in Britain and the US. He opposed fascism, and was active in the Civil Rights Movement and social justice campaigns. He was blacklisted during the McCarthy era, denied a passport by the US which meant he could no longer travel to perform, and was widely censored owing to his open criticism of the US government. The National Library of Wales holds many resources pertaining to Robeson, should you wish to know more.
